Tiny Desk Concert: Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra

The story you’ll hear about Amanda Palmer’s new album Theatre is Evil is how it’s entirely funded by Kickstarter. Yet, Palmer has always had a quirky, off beat darkness in her songwriting, a gift for matching story to music to that is on full, glorious display here. (No, it’s not surprising she’s married to Neil Gaiman; they weave similar kinds of stories, just in different mediums.) Amazing how the band translates Palmer’s big sound into stripped down versions, but the sweet, macabre absurdities of the “Ukelele Anthem” is beyond fantastic.
